Happy Endings & Cat Tales

Upset cats can spend weeks undergoing close & personal socialisation at Romney House, creating a bond between cat & keeper. We are delighted when they move on to lead a normal life in a loving home, but we do worry about them. We assume that 'no news is good news' but are always delighted to hear from a new owner.
If you have adopted a cat from us, no matter how long s/he spent here, we would love to hear from you. Please send your news to Romney House, for our happy endings chapter or e-mail silvana@romneyhousecatrescue.org.uk.

Kittens at home

hi silvana i have been meaning to contact you to let you know how the kittens are getting on but my phone is playing up so i am using my laptop instead. Freedie has settled in brillantly, we let him settle in for about a week before leaving the bedroom door open so that he could venture out on his own terms. Having the whole of upstaurs to himself he went mad for a few days charging about but i think he must of got bored on his own as he soon came down the stairs to be nearer us. After a few days he was comfartable with the dogs and was even trying to share their dinner and often fell asleep in the dog's cage. But i have noticed that he doesnt like being on his own so he is in my room of a night time now, he has the end of the bed and my dog sleeps on the pillows. He has taken a liking to our smallest dog and when he sees her he rubs against her and purrs like mad. He is still quite nervouse with new people but now christmas is over it is only really me mum and dad here so he doesnt have to worry about meeting new people. His favourite place is in a box i put blankets in ontop of the freezer or on the stoll in the front room by the fish tanks, in the evening he loves to lay on my lap whilst i watch some telly and follow me aroung the house in hope of a treat . I have included some photos of him for you to see how well he has settled in.

The two blacks kittens i named Sammy and Nicky as in the first week i thought they were girls but as they gained confidence i have discovered they are in fact both boys, they love each other to bits and are always laying cuddling together. I have spent alot of time each days in the morning, afternoon and night time sitting in the room with them, they are alot more confident aroung people and will climb all over you get food and will play with you. They still will not allow you to touch them, although Sammy the larger of the two i have been able to stroke a few times but these are only breif moments. Yesterday was the biggest step farword they have made so far i think, Sammy nudged my hand and allowed me stroke him for about two minutes and was quite relaxed Nicky just sat on the stool watching whilst his brother allowed me to stroke him. It has taken time with them but i feel like i am getting somewhere with them just not as quick as i hoped, i am concentrating on Sammy as he seems the bravest and more confident to stay closer to me and i am hoping that Nicky will follow his brothers lead.

Bex

Bex
Sex: Male
Gift/stray: Stray

Going home in Jan

Worried Bex was picked up as a stray in Beckenham with a micro chip that had not an invalid phone number and address. It's a shame he is a lovely large tabby boy.

Big Oscar came in after he was thrown out of his owners home that had died.He was only used to living with him inside.

Gift/stray: Semi Feral
We've been meaning to send a message for a while - to say that Elmo has settled in really well. He has filled out quite a bit and loves his new home. He goes out occasionally, tearing down the garden to chase leaves and scrambling up the trellis in the hope that he will get to the top before the birds fly off - but never gets there fast enough!

He thoroughly enjoys his life of leisure indoors, however, playing with various toys and scooting them up and down the hall at high speed when the mood takes him. Otherwise we find him under our feet much of the time as he really enjoys company.

He eats well and has worked out where food comes from -  of all types and varieties. You only have to open the fridge door and he has his nose in there 'in hope', though we don't give him much beyond his own food, which he always polishes off enthusiastically. He is getting wobbly bits, so we've had to cut back a bit!

He is always chatty and 'chirrups' a greeting to everyone he meets. Millie is less bothered by him now, and only occasionally hisses or snarls at him when she reckons he is invading her personal space.

To our surprise he hasn't destroyed the Christmas tree! We thought he would be climbing up inside it to get at the decorations, but he isn't really interested. Catherine has come home from Edinburgh with a couple of great toys though; a gerbil and some knitting.

The gerbil is currently living in its cage in the shower compartment in the bathroom, with the door closed. Elmo sits and watches it for hours - he reckons its better than TV.

The only thing that beats it is Catherine's knitting. She is slow and inexpert, which gives Elmo lots of opportunity to attack the wool as it twitches. He is responsible for lots of dropped stitches!

So, it's all working out extremely well.

Thank you again for all your help in rescuing him from Tesco.

With best wishes for Christmas,

Melinda and Bill

Poor young Elmo has been running around Elmers end Tesco carpark for weeks, being fed by some of their customers. He was so scared and had to finally be trapped for his safety.

He is a young handsome cat who has obviously strayed and got lost
