DIY SOS Sardinia Blog - Day 1
I'm lucky! I check the fridge and cupboards and discover the last occupants (friends of Tony's) have left milk and coffee, plus I have a nut bar from Pret for breakfast. The others arrive at 9:00 and we head off for town. First stop coffee and the super market. As we head back to the car it’s starting to rain. Typical! As we get to the builders merchants the heavens open. It pours down. In the 30 feet from the car to the shop we are soaked. We order our supplies and it’s still raining hard. Flooding everywhere (makes the news the next day). We hit the garden shop for netting, it’s still raining. Back at the villa the weather clears up a bit. I start work on the door to the right hand pen, removing the old litter cover (which injured a cat) and some other small tasks. I start replacing the netting on the right hand inside run and fixing the inner door to stop kitten escapes. This isn’t a blog about what Silvana got up to (coming later) but just to mention the two little kittens get taken to the vet. I get dropped back in Fertilia sometime after 6:00 to settle in with a plan to meet later for diner at a local restaurant. I’m ready to eat about 8:00 but the rest of the team are missing in action. After going in search of a mythical wifi hotspot and watching some footy in a local bar we eventually meet up at around 10:00 for a late pizza etc. At this stage I discover that I have a secondary task! The two little kittens need somewhere warm to stay for a few nights and I seem to have an overabundance of free bedrooms. So now I’m kitten sitting as well . Who can resist (see pics). The day is done some time after midnight with the little ones settled in and us all worn out.
