DIY SOS Sardinia Blog - Day 3

Day 3 is roof day.  I lay on the new roof and raise the height of the existing roof.  It took some time to decide if there was enough slope to meet the top of the surrounding structure.  I think there is but it’s tight and needs some fine tuning of the current roof.  I have to unsecure the existing roof along the low edge which turns into a right pain as they don’t use screws out there, but some sort of blunt nail with a large head.  Not good.  Takes ages and needs a hammer.  Clearly these are never meant to be taken out without scraping the roof.  Eventually I get to the position where I can start securing the new roof using screws sourced locally and water seals I bought over from the UK.  One small problem;  I cannot reach the middle of the roof to screw down the join and I can’t risk getting out on it cos its seems quite brittle.  So I fashion a weight / rod which I run on top to keep everything down in the middle.  I give Silvana and Sharon a lift to the airport around lunchtime as they are off home.  I’m now the proud driver of Silvana’s car best described as ‘well used’.  I call in at Fertilia (someone called in each day) to feed the small ones etc.  All seems well by the end of the day so the tomorrow plan is to felt the shed roof, at least as far as possible.   I break off about 6:00 with a plan for a night in watching movies with a take away.  Unfortunately my plan is thwarted as the pizza place is closed Wednesdays so I head for the main road in Fertilia and each a good meal in a bar watching the Spain match.  While I’m there is pours with rain (see tomorrow for the repercussions!)
