Help the Italian cats and dogs
If you would like to help SOS Sardinia...
It is important that more local people in Alghero take care of their colonies.
SOS Sardinia's aim is to educate people, provide veterinary care and neutering to prevent further feral population numbers. Permanent feeding stations in suitable areas also need to be set up.
If the cats are neutered/spayed, healthy and fed throughout the year - problems coming from nuisance scavenging will be prevented.
Local people and vets are trying to help, but struggle with the costs incurred. The idea behind "SOS Sardinia" is quite simple - neuter the cats, limit and gradually decrease the colony sizes. Treat the sick, injured and organise a regular feeding programme using local people who care enough to help. This is in everyone's interest but it costs money.

Operating on the kitchen table is often necessary trapping usually occurs out of hours, and overtime rates apply.

Sadly, help came too late for some.
