.. Tortoiseshell & red tabby

Tortoiseshell

This refers to the colour and markings found on patched or mottled - multicoloured fur.

They may contain patches of black, red, cinnamon, chocolate and cream.

They are often referred to as Tortie, Tortie and white or Calico.

They are said to bring good luck.

For genetic reasons, torties are almost exclusively female.

It would be rare indeed to find a male tortie, but it is not unheard of.

Red Tabby

(more commonly referred to as Ginger) are predominantly male.

There are ginger females, but usually the red alley cat rummaging around the bins is a Tom.
